Star Weaving Sessions
One Million Stars to End Violence is a community based initiative with the aim of making one million stars, which are symbols of light, courage and solidarity to end all forms of violence, including violence against women, bullying and racism (see http://www.onemillionstars.net/ ).
The Northern Beaches Constellation is a group of friends who have committed to making and teaching others to make a total of 10,000 stars from the Northern Beaches for this project. We are working towards displaying the locally made 10,000 stars at a White Ribbon Day event on the Northern Beaches. They will then be sent to the Gold Coast to be part of an installation of 1,000,000 stars for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
We will be running 'Star Weave Jams' (sessions) during the exhibition to help us spread the word about this community project and reach our star goal. Materials and know-how will be provided - the stars are not difficult to make but young children should be accompanied by an adult. The sessions are free and you are encouraged to drop in at any time during the sessions (no bookings required).
